Our First New Car – 2018 Honda Odyssey EX

Emma and I bought ourselves a brand new 2018 Honda Odyssey back in September 2017.  I know there are a lot of people out there that would tell us to never buy a new car, but we plan on having this thing forever.  In our short few months of having it, we have fallen in love.

It is very easy to drive.  It comes with Lane Keeping Assist which gently guides the steering wheel to keep you in the lanes.  It also gives you a little wake-up notification if you go outside the lines.  The Adaptive Cruise Control is a game changer for sure.  I simply set the speed I want to go and the distance I want it to stay from the car in front of me and it keeps me at that distance.  If the car in front speeds up past my preset speed, the Odyssey will go the speed set.  If the car in front of me slows down, the Odyssey slows down.  It will also brake for you if you don’t react in time.  The only negative I have found is that sometimes I pay less attention to the road because of the sense of safety it provides.  Don’t worry, I’m working on not doing that!

The inside is very roomy.  The third row completely stows away.  When the seats are up, the hull in the back is great for storing stuff without worry of it rolling everywhere.  We put a full 6’ Christmas tree in it without even the slightest problem.  We’ve put 10’ long PVC in the back and it fits without issue.  We’ve hauled plenty of wedding planning material (centerpieces, stands, boxes, etc.)

The middle row seats 3.  The middle seat of the middle row very easily comes out.  When the middle seat is out, the outer seats can slide side to side.  This is awesome for trying to get something in or out of the third row.  I’m thinking children someday!  It’s one of my favorite features.

My favorite features:

  • Keyless entry (if the key is in your pocket, the door will open when your hand is inside the door handle) and the Walk Away Auto Lock.
  • Automatic Brake Hold – this feature allows you to remove your foot from the brake when you are completely stopped, and the vehicle doesn’t move! I didn’t think this would be one of my favorites, but it is awesome
  • Touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Magic Slide 2nd-Row Seats (as mentioned above)

It also looks better than previous years of the Odyssey.  Honda did a fair amount of cosmetic upgrading.

Some other great features to note:

  • The headlights have an auto-bright feature. If there are no other cars in front of you, the bright lights will turn on automatically.
  • Touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Application that allows other people in the van to suggest songs
  • Wi-Fi
  • Heated seats
  • Remote start
  • Rear Camera with Cross-Traffic Monitoring (lets you know if traffic is crossing behind you that you can’t see)

And this isn’t even the best model available.  We just didn’t need some of the other features.

I am in no way affiliated with Honda and I did not receive any compensation for my material/review.
